Building Regulations are Changing for Roof Top Terraces
The current restrictions for roof top terraces make it difficult to obtain planning permission due to privacy considerations and with no current government incentives, people are not making the change to utilise and build a greener space in their homes.
However, the planning rules for roof top gardens could be changing in the future which is great news! Roof top gardens benefit both the environment and the homeowner by increasing the biodiversity in the properties area and acting as additional insulation.
This concept of ‘micro-gardening’ by turning your small outdoor spaces, such as balconies, rooftops and patios, into a diverse and green area is becoming very popular. The Royal Horticultural Society has even created a dedicated area on its website, alongside many easy how-to-guides, to help you create your own compact green haven.
